Polycrystalline thin films of RuO2 were grown on fused-quartz substrates and a parametric study was carried out to probe the influence of film nanostructure on the four-point Van der Pauw resistivity and Hall coefficient. The films were grown via rea

A local maximum at a slow field variation was measured in the AC-loss profile vs. field ramping rate in a double-stacked wire, which is not predicted by the existing AC-loss models. The AC losses of three important superconducting wires, manufactured

The ramp-rate limitation found in the US-demonstration poloidal coil (US-DPC) test was studied in a laboratory scale experiment. The ramp-rate sensitivity has been identified on a 27-strand cable-in-conduit conductor at a background ramped field to 9

The authors discuss R. Wong's (1989) CICC, a 1-1/2-D code that models thermal conduction through the insulation of an individual conduit. It is noted that, until recently, the calibration of CICC was restricted to measurements of helium expulsion in

Results of a parametric study of the 4.2-K resistance of lap joints between two 27-strand cables of multifilamentary Nb/sub 3/Sn wire are reported. All joints were between ribbon terminations made by rolling copper-encapsulated cable ends flat. Resis

The AC losses of internal-tin Nb/sub 3/Sn wires have been measured by an isothermal calorimetric method in triangular-wave fields at ramp rates of up to 1.2 T/s and in small-amplitude ripple fields biased with DC fields of up to 9 T. Measurements wer

The critical current of titanium-alloyed internal-tin, jelly-roll Nb/sub 3/Sn wire for use in the US Demonstration Poloidal Coil (US-DPC) was evaluated. It was confirmed from 14 randomly-selected samples that the critical-current values were uniform

The US-Demonstration Poloidal Coil (US-DPC) is a 2-m-diameter, 30 kA, 8 MJ, forced-flow Nb/sub 3/Sn solenoid made with a cable-in-conduit conductor using an Incoloy 908 conduit. It is approximately one half the scale of the proposed ITER (Internation
