A triplet of Mw ∼6 earthquakes on 2017 December 1–12 occurred ∼50 km north of Kerman, Iran, in an area of mountainous topography where several major right-lateral strike-slip fault systems—the Gowk, Nayband, Lakar Kuh and Kuh Banan faults—c

The August 11, 2012 Mw 6.4 earthquakes in northwestern Iran occurred as a result of oblique strike-slip faulting in the shallow crust of the Eurasia plate, approximately 300 kilometer east of the plate boundary between the Eurasia and Arabia plates.
