We present the status of the project IRAIT (the Italian Robotic Antarctic Infrared Telescope) that will be hosted at Dome C in the Italo-French Concordia station. We review the main scientific motivations of the effort, and describe the characteristi

The Antarctic continent offers ideal atmospheric conditions to carry out observations at infrared wavelengths > 5 μm, a task which is other wise possible only from space with rare and short-lived infrared satellites. In this paper we report the main

The DENIS project is the first attempt to carry out a complete digitized survey of the southern sky in the range 1–2.5 μm. The main objectives of the programme and the main specifications of the camera and of the data processing stream are briefly
We present ground-based mid-infrared imaging for 27 M-, S- and C-type Asymptotic Giant Branch (AGB) stars. The data are compared with those of the database available thanks to the IRAS, ISO, MSX and 2MASS catalogues. Our goal is to establish relation

A program for developing TES microcalorimeters for contributions to future Italian X-ray astronomy missions is under course. Its main scientific goals are the spectroscopic study of extreme astrophysical objects, characterized by very large energy re

We observed 17 AGB and post-AGB circumstellar envelopes wuth the midinfrared camera TIRCAM. The collected photometry is compared with the IRAS LRS spectra and a two color diagram for the chemical classification of the dust is developed.

We present the results of direct mid-IR images of the luminous young stellar objects GL 2591, S140-IRS1, and W51-IRS2. The sources show an extended mid-IR emission at the limit of our spatial resolution indicating the presence of dense circumstellar

The evolution of low and intermediate mass (1-8 M⊙) stars along the Asymptotic Giant Branch (AGB) is ruled by processes of mass loss, causing the whole convective envelope to be gradually ejected into space. If the stellar mass is sufficiently high
