Possible effects of hexadecapole nuclear deformations on subbarrier fusion cross sections are investigated. The $^{16}\mathrm{O}$ on $^{166}\mathrm{Er}$ and $^{176}\mathrm{Yb}$ reactions have been measured at beam energies ranging from 64 to 100 MeV.
