As CMOS technology scales to deep-submicron dimensions, designers face new challenges in determining the proper balance between aggressive high-performance transistors and lower-performance transistors to optimize system power and performance for a g

RECENT discussions of the mechanism of high-temperature superconductivity have focused on the symmetry of the superconducting order parameter (the wavefunction of the superconducting state) as a means of constraining the nature of the interaction tha

We describe a process for defining and etching Nb/A1Ox/Nb Josephson junctions on 125 mm wafers using standard optical lithographic stencils and low pressure chlorine plasma in a single wafer reactive ion etching tool. The process exhibits selectiviti

We report the use of unshielded planar low-Tc dc SQUIDs for temperature-dependent ac and dc magnetic susceptibility measurements on small particles in magnetic fields of up to 300 G. These measurements were made with integrated microsusceptometers wh

Superconducting electronic circuits surrounded by various configurations of holes in the superconducting ground plane have been imaged using a high resolution scanning superconducting quantum interference device (SQUID) microscope. These data demonst

A simple test circuit of the rapid single‐flux‐quantum (RSFQ) logic family has been implemented in a planarized all‐refractory technology using only two superconducting layers and small Nb/AlOx/Nb Josephson junctions (nominally 1.5×1.5 μm2) w

An in situ study of the absolute magnetic moment of thin ferromagnetic films grown in ultrahigh vacuum (UHV) is described. The moments are measured using a newly innovated technique, rotating sample superconducting quantum interference device (SQUID)

We report the detection of pulsed nuclear magnetic resonance in a single 50 μm particle of platinum metal at 4 K and in an applied field of 60 G. The flux from the precessing spins is detected directly by an integrated dc SQUID minisusceptometer. Th
