1. The moments of phthalic, citraconic and succinic anhydrides have been measured, the first two in benzene as solvent and the last in dioxane. The moment values at 20° C. are respectively 5·25, 4·27, and 4·20×10−18 e.s.u. 2. The moment values

(1) The moments of 2·6 dimethyl-γ-pyrone, xanthone, and coumarin have been determined in benzene solutions at 10°, 20°, 30° and 40°C. The values for 20° are 4·48, 2·93 and 4·51 respectively. (2) The high moments for these pyrones are due to

The moment of tetralin as measured in benzene as solvent is only 0·4 to 0·5 × 10−18, and not 1·66 × 10−18 as reported by Puchalik. The origin of this small but finite moment is briefly discussed.

Whilst it is recognised that the dielectric constant of liquids changes in the frequency range 10 4 - 10 5 kilocycles per second in accordance with the theory of Debye, no systematic examination of the variation of the dielectric constant of simple l

Pietures are reproduced of the diffraction patterns obtained with light that has traversed a system of superposed ultrasonic waves set up in a liquid. Besides the presence of the combinational lines, the pietures clearly show the characteristic manne
