We report on a search for evidence of binarity in Far-Ultraviolet Spectroscopic Explorer (FUSE) observations of DAO white dwarfs. Spectra recorded by FUSE are built up from a number of separate exposures. Observation of changes in the position of pho

This review considers the observations of hot, hydrogen-rich white dwarf stars, with particular reference to measurements of temperature, surface gravity and composition. Spectroscopic data from a variety of wavelength ranges are required for this wo

Spectra of molecular hydrogen (H2) are employed to search for a possible proton-to-electron mass ratio (μ) dependence on gravity. The Lyman transitions of H2, observed with the Hubble Space Telescope towards white dwarf stars that underwent a gravit

The white dwarfs are promising laboratories for the study of cosmochronology and stellar evolution. Through observations of the pulsating white dwarfs, we can measure their internal structures and compositions, critical to understanding post-main-seq

We report the results of a search for O VI absorption in the spectra of 80 hot DA white dwarfs observed by the FUSE satellite. We have carried out a detailed analysis of the radial velocities of interstellar and (where present) stellar absorption lin

The atmospheres of many hot white dwarfs contain significant quantities of metals. Various studies have reached different conclusions on the distribution of nitrogen in the atmosphere of REJ1032+532, a 44,350 K DA. Here, we examine this object again

More than 100 hot white DA white dwarfs have been observed by the FUSE mission, exceeding by more than a factor 4 the numbers of stars observed at high spectral resolution by IUE and HST together. Thus far, this resource has not been fully exploited,

We present the latest results in a near‐infrared photometric search for unresolved ultra‐cool companions and debris disks to white dwarfs in UKIDSS. Twenty five DA white dwarfs were identified as having multiple excesses indicative of a low mass
