Background: 5-aminolevulinic acid (5-ALA)-induced protoporphyrin IX (PpIX) fluorescence shows high sensitivity in detecting the tumor core of high-grade gliomas (HGG) but poor sensitivity for tissue of low-grade gliomas (LGG) and the margins of HGG.
