Nacre, or mother of pearl, is a biomaterial with a layered structure. In a recent geological study, researchers found that the width of the nacre layers depends on the formation temperature, which is determined by the ocean water temperature. A linea

Purpose MRI parameters, such as T1 , T2 , and ADC, of tissue-mimicking materials in MRI phantoms can exhibit temperature dependence, and bore temperatures can vary over a 10°C range across different MRI systems. If this variation is not accurately c

The concept of adiabatic surface temperature (AST) opens possibilities to calculate heat transfer to a solid surface based on one temperature instead of two as is needed when heat transfer by both ...

Thermochromic liquid crystals (TLCs) can serve as a light valve when it is carefully controlled by temperature. With a photodiode used in light transmissive intensity electric output voltage extraction, there is a progressive increase in output volta

Recently electronic equipments get gradually small. Therefore the fluid temperature measurements using contact-type thermometers are more difficult. The liquid crystals change the color depending on temperature. The liquid crystals mixes into the flu

In mercury thermometers, the meniscus moves erratically, limiting resolution to about 1 mK. We describe a miniature liquid-in-glass thermometer in which the working fluid is 10 μL of water, topped by a thin layer of oil. By measuring the level of th

Several gas-controlled heatpipes are operating at IMGC for primary temperature measurements from 100 to 962 °C. One consists of a stainless steel heat-pipe with a single thermometer well and uses 7N-pure mercury as working fluid; another is made in

We describe an arrangement of thin film superconducting transition edge thermometers, useful for third sound measurements, that provides an extended range of sensitivity beyond that of a typical single thermometer. We connect thin film strips of zinc

Self-calibrated resistance thermometers to be used as standards have been investigated. The heat exchange of the sensor coil with liquid helium per unit coil surface area at 0.3 K is 12 times better than that of a conventional gas-filled thermometer.
