Leo Waaijers was van 1988 tot 2001 bibliothecaris in Delft, van 2001 tot 2004 bibliothecaris in Wageningen, van 2005 – 2008 projectmanager bij SURF. Nu is Waaijers gepensioneerd, maar op afroep nog actief, onder andere als Open Access consultant.
