We report on the evaluation of a microstructured optical fiber (MOF) designed for non-linear signal processing applications, i.e., with a very small guided mode (waist ∼1 μm). Calculations predict an intrinsic (assuming propagation in the fundamen

Thirty-two 10-Gb/s channels spaced by 100 GHz are transmitted over 500 km of dispersive fiber (D>+19 ps/nm/spl middot/km) with 125-km amplifier spacing. This is made possible by the use of 3 in-line dual-stage flat-gain erbium-doped fiber amplifiers

Erbium doped fibre is key element in developing Erbium Doped Fibre Amplifier with spectrally wide and flat gain for WDM applications. This paper will describe the progress made since the start and new improvement routes.

Simple experiments are used to determine ion-pairs percentage and macroscopic homogeneous upconversion in highly erbium-doped fibers. Using these parameters in a Giles-based model enable to predict Optical-Power-Conversion-Efficiency of WDM-EDFAs wit

Microstructured optical fibers (MOFs) are optical fibers having a periodic air-silica cross-section. The air holes extend along the axis of the fiber for its entire length. The core of the fiber is formed by a missing hole in the periodic structure.
