Stars with initial masses larger than 8 M _⊙ undergo substantial mass loss through mechanisms that remain elusive. Unraveling the origins of this mass loss is important for comprehending the evolutionary path of these stars, the type of supernova e

Massive evolved stars such as red supergiants and hypergiants are potential progenitors of Type II supernovae, and they are known for ejecting substantial amounts of matter, up to half their initial mass, during their final evolutionary phases. The r

The cool hypergiant star RW Cephei is currently in a deep photometric minimum that began several years ago. This event bears a strong similarity to the Great Dimming of the red supergiant Betelgeuse that occurred in 2019–2020. We present the first

This paper systematically studies the relation between metallicity and mass loss of massive stars. We perform one-dimensional stellar evolution simulations and build a grid of ∼2000 models with initial masses ranging between 11 and 60 M _⊙ and ab

We analyzed multiwavelength observations of the previously identified Galactic center X-ray binary CXO 174528.79-290942.8 (XID 6592) and determine that the near-infrared counterpart is a red supergiant based on its spectrum and luminosity. Scutum X-1

Binary systems composed of a red supergiant and a B star are useful probes of stellar evolution. We have searched the literature to create a catalog of 108 Galactic systems of such type, which is presented here.

SN2010da/NGC 300 ULX-1 was first detected as a supernova impostor in May 2010 and was recently discovered to be a pulsating ultraluminous X-ray source. In this letter, we present VLT/X-shooter spectra of this source obtained in October 2018, covering
