The addition of a small percent of nitrogen to GaAs causes a large reduction of the band gap energy and a tensile strain within the lattice. The further addition of H at 300 \ifmmode^\circ\else\textdegree\fi{}C causes a recovery of the band gap of th

The H-N-H center in ${\text{GaAs}}_{1\ensuremath{-}y}{\text{N}}_{y}$ that is responsible for the band-gap shift caused by H has been studied by infrared spectroscopy in conjunction with uniaxial stress and by theory. Rich, microscopic details about i

Measurements of the O-H and O-D vibrational lifetimes show that the room-temperature hydrogen diffusion rate in rutile TiO2 can be enhanced by 9 orders of magnitude when stimulated by resonant infrared light. We find that the local oscillatory motion

The vibrational lifetimes of the O-H and O-D stretch modes in the perovskite oxide KTaO 3 are measured by pump-probe infrared spectroscopy. Both stretch modes are exceptionally long lived and exhibit a large "reverse" isotope effect, due to a phonon-
