Deep mining may induce quakes reaching magnitude mL of 4.5 to 5.5 and leading to surface ground motion with Modified Mercalli intensities up to VIII. Such strong ground motions may cause serious damages in civil infrastructure in the vicinity of mine

A probabilistic seismic hazard analysis has been performed to compute probabilistic seismic hazard maps for the eastern Caribbean region (10° N-19° N, 59° W-64° W), which includes in the north the Leeward Islands (from Anguilla to Dominica) and i

A process for batch fabricating and mounting polymer (SU-8, EPON) tips on a mass-produced quartz tuning fork wafer is proposed in this paper. In order to add a sharp tip to a side wall of such tuning forks, three unconventional procedures were combin

We studied the effect of surface enlargement on the efficiency of a muon (μ+) moderator by comparing the flux of epithermal μ+ emerging from a solid Ar (s-Ar) layer deposited on a flat Al substrate with the fluxes from an Ar layer deposited on grat

With polymer molding techniques, it is possible to fabricate nanostructures with a replication fidelity of 25 nanometers. Both hot embossing and injection molding can be used, and cycle times of down to 4 sec can be achieved in a CD injection molding

We are developing small arrays of microcalorimeters based on transition edge sensors made with Mo/Au bilayers deposited on silicon nitride membranes and Au absorbers. The superconducting transition of the bilayers is adjusted to be around 130 mK with

The local contact potential difference (CPD) of different self-assembled n-alkanethiol monolayers on Au substrates has been measured using Kelvin probe force microscopy (KPFM). Our results demonstrate that KPFM can be used to obtain topography and CP
