In this work, we study the response of Long Period Fiber Gratings (LPG) to an external Nematic Liquid Crystal medium. By a coupling between the fundamental mode of the core and the cladding modes of the fiber, losses occure at different wavelengths.

We propose a new technique for producing UV-induced chirped fiber Bragg gratings for dispersion compensation by using a standard unchirped phase mask. The realization of apodised chirped Bragg gratings with a controlled bandwidth and a linear time de

The efficiency, small signal gain spectrum and noise characteristics of erbium-doped fluorozirconate fibre amplifier with a core diameter of 2.8 μm and a core-cladding refractive index difference of 40×10 −3 are described. A gain coefficient of 3

For future use in optical communications, external switches of the signal propagating in the fiber are needed. Up to now, only a few components have been developed which permit an external modulation of the signal. We propose here for the first time

This paper describes a new method of chirped fibre Bragg grating fabrication for chromatic dispersion compensation. The technique consists in a constant pitch Bragg grating inscription within an accurately controlled slope of tapered fibre. Chromatic

We present the results of the experimental investigation of polarization properties of photoinduced long-period fibre gratings (LPFG) written in different types of optical fibres. We show that that the transmission spectra of LPFG written on the pola

Summary form only given. In conclusion, we have demonstrated that piezoactuated gratings can be combined to build active demultiplexers or wavelengths routers. With minor modifications, this device can operate as a programmable add and drop multiplex

The authors present the realisation of an all-fibre add/drop multiplexer based on UV-written Bragg gratings in the arms of a twincore fibre Mach-Zehnder interferometer. Experimental results of photoimprinting and wavelength adjustment of Bragg gratin

Experimental results on a bunched 4-core singlemode fibre tapered by a fusion technique are presented. The coupler longitudinal shape is first calculated and then realised to obtain a significant power transfer between the four waveguides of the stru

Optical equalisation of CSO degradation induced by laser chirp and standard fibre dispersion is experimentally demonstrated. This equalisation is based on the combination of the standard singlemode fibre with a large negative dispersion fibre. With a
