Successful adaptation to changes in an animal's emotional and motivational environment depends on behavioral flexibility accompanied by changes in bodily responses, e.g., autonomic and endocrine, which support the change in behavior. Here, we identif

The scattering property of a terahertz fiber Bragg grating is characterized. The grating is written in subwavelength polymer fiber with a length of 160 periods. The measured full width at half maximum of the radiated beam is approximately 4 GHz, whic

Relief gratings of submicron periodicity are patterned in InOx thin oxide films using 248 nm interferometric excimer laser ablation. The ablation process is studied in terms of grating depth versus exposure conditions, using optical diffraction effic

Presents a model for the growth of grating devices in materials with a nonlinear photosensitive response to incident radiation. We derive an expression for the written refractive index modulation in the material in terms of this photosensitive respon

We propose a simple method of characterizing the sensitivities of the cladding modes of an optical fiber to environmental conditions through the analysis of a single device. These sensitivities to conditions such as temperature, strain, and the refra

We demonstrate notch filters in polymer fiber Bragg gratings for use at THz frequencies. The filters were created by introducing a π/2-phase shift into narrowband Bragg gratings manufactured in Topas polymer subwavelength fiber. Experimental results

An all-polymer fiber polarizer is proposed for terahertz applications. The polarizer is based on a mechanism which makes use of subwavelength fibers and absorption films. Several centimeters of the film could give an extinction ratio of 30 dB, while

A comparative study of Nd:GdVO4 and Nd:YVO4 crystal lasers pumped by a cw diode laser has been conducted at the fundamental wavelengths of 1.06 µm and 1.34 µm, as well as when intracavity frequency-doubled to 532 nm and 670 nm, respectively. At the

We report on an apodization scheme for terahertz fiber Bragg gratings. The grating consists of only 90 ablated notches on two opposite sides of a subwavelength polymer fiber. Side-lobe suppression of 14 dB was experimentally achieved.
