TWO techniques for cannulating the rumen of the Red Sokoto goat of Nigeria are described. Stump type cannulae made of rigidblack., vulcathene1 material with screwable corks were found to be more suitable than the flexible cannulae made of plastisol2.

Summary Splenectomy using chlorpromazine sedation and lignocaine local anaesthesia was successful and uncomplicated in eight sheep. The immediate postsplenectomy haematological changes consisted of increases in red cell parameters and a leucocytosis
