It has been developed an HIV type 1 transgenic rat model (HIV-1 Tg Rat) which contains a gag-pol-deleted HIV-1 provirus regulated by the viral LTR promoter. Although it harbors a non infectious provirus, efficient viral expression occurs in different

Indoleamine 2,3-dioxygenase (IDO) is the rate-limiting enzyme in the catabolism of tryptophan. By creating a local microenvironment in which levels of tryptophan are low, IDO-expressing antigen-presenting cells (APC) could regulate T cell activation.

The cytopathic effects (CPE) resulting from the infection of CD4+ T cells by human herpes-virus 7 (HHV-7) comprises two major mechanisms: generation of large polyploid cells, which eventually undergo necrotic lysis, and apoptosis, predominantly occur

Background & Aims During tumorigenesis, loss of rapid messenger RNA (mRNA) decay allows for overexpression of cancer-associated genes. The RNA-binding proteins Hu antigen R (HuR) and tristetraprolin (TTP) bind AU-rich elements in the 3′ untranslate

Tight regulation of COX-2 expression is a key feature controlling eicosanoid production in atherosclerosis and other inflammatory syndromes. Adhesive interactions between platelets and monocytes occur in these conditions and deliver specific signals

Cytotoxic activity of tumor necrosis factor–related apoptosis-inducing ligand (TRAIL/Apo-2 ligand), used alone or in different combinations with either a low (1.5 Gy) or a high (15 Gy) single dose of ionizing radiation (IR), was investigated on ery

Human herpesvirus 7 (HHV-7) infection of both primary CD4+ T lymphocytes and SupT1 lymphoblastoid T-cell line induced a progressive accumulation of cells exibiting a gap 2/mitosis (G2/M) and polyploid content coupled to an increased cell size. The ex
