The different connections between the powerplant and vehicle chassis/body should be developed carefully in order to minimise the transfer of unwanted vibrations. The engine mounts are well known to have significant contribution in the total transfer

Laser ultrasonics is used to optically excite and detect acoustic waves at the interface between a liquid and a solid or coated solid. Several case studies show that this technique is feasible to investigate experimentally the theoretically predicted

We have used an all-laser surface wave ultrasonic method to investigate cast iron samples with a variety of morphologies of included graphite precipitation. The relation between ultrasonic attenuation and the microstructure of cast iron is discussed.

The small-amplitude and finite-amplitude propagation characteristics of laser line source excited and laser detected Scholte waves are investigated. Acoustic waves with Mach numbers up to 0.054 are observed at the interface between water and glass. I

Case hardened steel samples with different hardness are investigated by laser-excited and detected acoustic waves. The correlation between several temporal and spectral features of the acoustic waves and the microstructure of the samples is assessed.

The potential of Rayleigh wave spectroscopy for the in-depth reconstruction of elastic properties of multilayers for materials with a continuous profile of elastic properties is explored. Two models to calculate the surface acoustic wave (SAW) disper

One of the aims in optimizing the deposition of CVD diamond is to increase the stiffness. Laser ultrasonics offers a useful tool to nondestructively investigate elastic parameters of materials. A colored liquid–transparent free‐standing film conf

Depth profiling of residual stress in steel is of great interest in many practical applications. Conventional techniques are either destructive (x‐ray diffraction and hole drilling) or with obvious restriction (Barkhausen noise). This paper present
