BackgroundThe activation of guanine nucleotide binding protein-coupled receptors, such as adenosine receptor (ADR) and opioid receptor (OPR), protects the heart against ischemia and reperfusion injury. We hypothesized that ADR or OPR might be involve

BackgroundIt is generally accepted that morphine affords cardioprotection against ischemia/reperfusion injury. Inhibition of the mitochondrial permeability transition pore (MPTP) is considered an end target for cardioprotection. The aim of this study

BackgroundWe investigated whether p42/p44 extracellular signal-regulated kinases (ERK1/2) and/or phosphatidylinositol-3-OH kinase (PI3K)-Akt play a crucial role in cardioprotection by κ-opioid receptor (KOP) activation.MethodsLangendorff perfused ra

BackgroundBecause the κ-opioid receptor (OR) agonist U50488H stimulates opioidergic regulation and inhibits L-type Ca2+ channels, this study was aimed at assessing the roles of OR and L-type Ca2+ channels on U50488H-induced cardioprotection.MethodsL
