The purpose of this study was to develop a method for detecting microbial activity based on soil esterase activity during biodegradation of polyester biodegradable mulch films after plowing the field. Herein, we report that the p-nitrophenyl butyrate

Fungi play an important role in the degradation of biodegradable plastics (BPs) in soil. However, little is known about their dynamics in the soil during the degradation of BPs. We studied the community dynamics of BP-degrading fungi during poly(buty

Caballeronia sp. strain NK8 grows on 3-chlorobenzoate and shows chemotaxis toward 3-chlorobenzoate and its degradation products, such as chlorocatechols. Complete genome sequencing revealed a 9.2-Mb genome consisting of three chromosomes and four pla

To improve the productivity of Paraphoma-like fungal strain B47-9 for biodegradable plastic (BP)-degrading enzyme (PCLE), the optimal concentration of emulsified poly(butylene succinate-co-adipate) (PBSA) in the medium was determined. Emulsified PBSA

We describe a method to quickly evaluate soil esterase activity using p‑nitrophenyl valerate as the substrate. Unwanted coloration of the control samples was suppressed by cooling. Esterase activity can be evaluated using arbitrary amounts of soil.

Burkholderia sp. NK8 can utilize 3-chlorobenzoate (3CB) as a sole source of carbon because it has a megaplasmid (pNK8) that carries the gene cluster (tfdT-CDEF) encoding chlorocatechol-degrading enzymes. The expression of tfdT-CDEF is induced by 3CB.

To construct an effective biological control agent for plant root diseases, we isolated Pseudomonas putida strains from the rhizospheres of cucumber plants and used them as hosts of an expression vector for an antipathogenic gene. The antipathogenic

In our previous study, a genetically-modified (GM) rhizosphere bacterium, Pseudomonas putida strain 101-97 harboring the chitinase-expression vector pKAC9-p07, showed over-production of chitinase and suppressed the damping-off of cucumber seedlings c
