TRPA1 and TRPM8 are transient receptor potential (TRP) channels involved in sensory perception. TRPA1 is a non-selective calcium permeable channel activated by irritants and proalgesic agents. TRPM8 reacts to chemical cooling agents such as menthol.

Fragile X syndrome, a common form of inherited mental retardation, is caused by the absence of the fragile X mental retardation protein (FMRP) due to a mutation in the FMR1 gene. We investigated the differentiation of neural stem cells generated from

The orexins are peptide transmitters/hormones, which exert stimulatory actions in many types of cells via the G-protein-coupled OX(1) and OX(2) receptors. Our previous results have suggested that low (subnanomolar) concentrations of orexin-A activate

Orexins are newly discovered neuropeptides regulating feeding and vigilance and have been detected in neuroendocrine cells of the gut. Potential neuroendocrine functions of orexin are unknown. Therefore, the effects of orexin-A on the intestinal neur

Brain-derived neurotrophic factor (BDNF) signaling through its receptor TRKB modulates survival, differentiation, and activity of neurons. BDNF activates TRKB on the cell surface, which leads to the initiation of intracellular signaling cascades and

We studied the cellular response to orexin type 1 receptor (OX1R) stimulation in differentiated IMR-32 neuroblastoma cells. In vitrodifferentiation of IMR-32 cells with 5-bromo-2′-deoxyuridine leads to a neuronal phenotype with long neurite extensio

Communication between neuronal and non-neuronal is called volume transmission when the released neurotransmitter (NT) acts via diffusion and affects several target cells. Both the neurosecretory and postsynaptic cell responses are linked to [Ca2+]i e
