The photometric modeling of LEDs as generalized Lambertian sources (GL-Sources) is discussed. Non-Lambertian LED sources, with axial symmetry, have important real-world applications in general lighting. In particular, so-called generalized Lambertian

In this paper, the foundations of radiometry and photometry, based on Second Principle of Thermodynamics are discussed, in terms of brightness (luminance), and etendue (Lagrange invariant) limitations of integrated lighting systems. In such a case, t

In this paper, integrated lighting is discussed, including light sources, rough or relief surfaces such as diffusers and microprisms, as well as theoretical limits of ray tracing and photometry, and performance metrics of integrated lighting systems.

Cockpit and Future Displays for Defense and Security.
True 3D displays, whether generated by volume holography, merged stereopsis (requiring glasses), or autostereoscopic methods (stereopsis without the need for special glasses), are useful in a great number of applications, ranging from training throug

We propose a novel true 3-D display based on holographic optics, called HAD ( Holographic Autostereoscopic Display ), or Holographic Inverse Look-around and Autostereoscopic Reality (HILAR), its latest generation. It does not require goggles, unlike

New approaches to light directionality and backlighting are described. They are discussed in the general context of the Liouville theorem and the second principle of thermodynamics; 3-D autostereoscopic applications are also discussed.

Head and helmet mounted displays (HMDs) can benefit greatly from new wide field-of-view, compact visor optics to project very high resolution (e.g., 5k X 4k) imagery. Physical Optics Corporation (POC) is developing novel, compact, lightweight wide fi

Various 3-D display technologies have been proposed for future cockpit displays, all with limitations. This paper describes a 3-D display technology based on a unique multiplexed holographic projection screen developed at Physical Optics Corporation.
