Dust storms on Mars drive water escape to space. Here, the authors show the impact Martian dust storms have on the abundance of atmospheric hydrogen and oxygen, and how this helps to overall oxidize the Martian atmosphere.

Ion pickup by the solar wind is ubiquitous in space plasma. Because pickup ions are originally produced by ionization of an exospheric neutral atmosphere, their measurements contain information on the exospheric neutral abundance. Here we established

Analyzing extreme ultraviolet spectra of the Martian upper atmosphere obtained from the Hisaki space telescope, we found anti-correlation between hydrogen (HI Ly-β) and oxygen (OI 1356 Å and OI 1304 Å) airglow brightness during one of the major re

Proton cyclotron waves (PCWs) upstream from Mars are usually interpreted as waves generated by ion/ion instabilities due to the interaction between the solar wind plasma and the pickup protons, originating from the extended hydrogen (H) exosphere of

The escape of atmospheric particles to space is an important process to understand the evolution of planetary atmospheres. Venus is thought to have lost a large part of its water content to space throughout its history. The escape to space is inheren
