Who will fill our shoes?” This is a question that all SEG members should be asking themselves. Take a moment to examine Figures 1 and 2, reproduced from SEG's 1999 Salary Survey. Assuming the survey is representative of our membership as a whole, t

The first update for the SEG/EAEG 3-D Modeling Project appeared in the February issue of TLE and the March issue of First Break. Our goal is to design salt and overthrust 3-D models and then simulate realistic 3-D surveys based on those models. Given

Two basic problems must be overcome when building 3-D velocity‐depth models for depth migration: (1) the mathematical representation of the model must be sufficiently flexible to adequately describe the earth’s complexities; and (2) the user inte

Summary When complex structures with large velocity contrasts are present, wavefield techniques can provide improved imaging (structure, amplitude, and phase) over the more traditional Kirchhoff integral methods. Wavefield techniques rely on two elem

Summary Wavefield imaging techniques take advantage of both advanced acquisition designs and wave-equation based prestack depth migration. Advanced acquisition designs, such as vertical cable seismic and ocean bottom seismometer, offer complete azimu
