Abstract Inflammation through activation of caspase‐1, seems to play a role in pulmonary hypertension induced by alveolar hypoxia. Whether alveolar hypoxia induces caspase‐1‐mediated inflammation and influx of leukocytes in other organs than th

Abstract Mountain climbing at high altitude implies exposure to low levels of oxygen, low temperature, wind, physical and psychological stress, and nutritional insufficiencies. We examined whether right ventricular (RV) and left ventricular (LV) myoc

Background: A zest for mountain climbing has developed, and the number of deaths related to this activity has risen. Hypobaric hypoxia, causing hypoxemia and tissue hypoxia, triggers numerous responses in the body such as acute mountain sickness, pul

Pulmonary hypertension.
Background: Pulmonary hypertension is a serious complication to chronic lung diseases, often with alveolar hypoxia. Mechanisms for hypoxia-induced pulmonary hypertension are suggested to be initial vasoconstriction, followed by inflammation, prolifer

Lung diseases with hypoxia are complicated by pulmonary hypertension, leading to heart failure and death. No pharmacological treatment exists. Increased proinflammatory cytokines are found in hypoxic patients, suggesting an inflammatory pathogenesis.

Background: Anti-neoplastic treatment in testicular cancer (TC) patients can induce acute adverse events, which may affect pulmonary function and cardiorespiratory fitness (VO 2max ). To what extent is largely unknown. Purpose: To quantify the acute

Aim In patients, an association exists between pulmonary diseases and diastolic dysfunction of the left ventricle (LV). We have previously shown that alveolar hypoxia in mice induces LV diastolic dysfunction and that mice exposed to hypoxia have incr

Interleukin (IL)-18 is a pro-inflammatory cytokine suggested to be involved in the development of pulmonary emphysema and inflammation. Studies involving immunology and cancer have revealed that IL-18 can have synergistic effects with IL-12. We have
