Climate change models predict increased drought frequencies. Maintaining yield stability necessitates drought-tolerant crops. However, their breeding is challenging; drought tolerance is a multigene trait with significant environment interaction. Thu

Climate models predict an increased likelihood of drought, demanding efficient selection for drought tolerance to maintain yield stability. Classic tolerance breeding relies on selection for yield in arid environments, which depends on yield trials a

Potato is an important food crop with high water-use-efficiency but low drought tolerance. The bottleneck in drought tolerance breeding is phenotyping in managed field environments. Fundamental research on drought tolerance is predominantly done in c

A selection of 21 rice cultivars (Oryza sativa L. ssp. indica and japonica) was characterized under moderate long-term drought stress by comprehensive physiological analyses and determination of the contents of polyamines and selected metabolites dir

Rice provides about half of the calories consumed in Asian countries, but its productivity is often reduced by drought, especially when grown under rain-fed conditions. Cultivars with increased drought tolerance have been bred over centuries. Slow se

Summary Potato (Solanum tuberosum L.) is one of the most important food crops worldwide. Current potato varieties are highly susceptible to drought stress. In view of global climate change, selection of cultivars with improved drought tolerance and h

SUMMARY Salt resistance was compared in populations of Armeria maritima (Mill.) Willd. from salt marshes and from inland sites to investigate which salt-resistance-related traits are present in all populations and which are derived traits of the salt

Morphological and biogeographical evidence suggests that the heavy-metal ecotype of Armeria maritima (Mill.) Willd. has evolved from a hybrid group between the subspecies maritima from salt marshes and the subspecies elongata from sandy soils. As par

Traits contributing to drought resistance of Armeria maritima were investigated by comparing six populations of this species from sandy grasslands, heavy metal mines and salt marsh sites. The sandy soil ecotype that is influenced by periodic drought
