Abstract The conversion of forest into grassland can induce differentiation in the functional morphology of resilient species. To assess this effect, we have chosen a dung beetle Dichotomius problematicus, as a model species. We established 20 sampli

Type II diabetes mellitus (T2DM) has reached endemic levels and comprises a substantial burden to the patient and the society. Along with lifestyle factors, a number of genetic loci predisposing to T2DM have been suggested including SORCS1 that encod

The type I transmembrane protein SorCS1 is a member of the Vps10p-domain receptor family comprised of Sortilin, SorLA and SorCS1, -2 and -3. Current information indicates that Sortilin and SorLA mediate intracellular protein trafficking and sorting,

The activating transcription factor (ATF) family comprises a group of basic region-leucine zipper (bZIP) proteins, which have roles in the development of species as diverse as insects and mammals. Here we describe two novel mRNAs encoding a single, 3

Members of the phospholipase D (PLD) superfamily are defined by the conserved HXKXXXXD motif, which is essential for the catalytic function of mammalian PLD. PLD enzymes are thought to play roles in signal transduction and membrane vesicular traffick

SummaryRecent genome-wide association studies (GWAS) have revealed strong association of hypercholesterolemia and myocardial infarction with SNPs on human chromosome 1p13.3. This locus covers three genes: SORT1, CELSR2, and PSRC1. We demonstrate that

The immunophilin homolog FKBP8 has been implicated in the regulation of apoptosis. Here we show that the 38-kDa form of FKBP8 (FKBP38) derives from a truncated ORF. The extended FKBP8 ORFs are 46 and 44 kDa in mouse and 45 kDa in human. Although the
