The effect of somatostatin (SRIF) on ion transport was determined in the rat colon in vitro. SRIF produced a sustained decrease in the short circuit current (Isc) (-0.8 +/- 0.1 mueq/h x cm2) and increased net Cl absorption (0.9 +/- 0.3 mueq/h x cm2).

Two patients with annular pancreas are described. The diagnosis was established unequivocally with endoscopic retrograde cholangiopancreatography before operation. In both patients there was pancreatitis of the annular pancreas. The first patient als

Changes in cytosolic free Ca2+ ([Ca2+]i) in response to the secretagogue carbachol have been characterized in the human colon cancer cell line T84, a model Cl- secretory cell. In this study, [Ca2+]i was determined with the fluorescence indicator fura

The effect of somatostatin on ion transport in the rabbit ileum was determined. Somatostatin (a) decreased the short circuit current (Isc) (—1.0 ± 0.2 µeq/ hr ∙ cm2) and potential difference (PD), (b) increased net Na and CI absorption (+1.5 ±

This report describes a Cl- transport pathway in confluent monolayer cultures of the T84 human colonic carcinoma cell line which is: 1) activated by vasoactive intestinal polypeptide, or other agents which induce or mimic cAMP; 2) independent of extr

We determined the effect of somatostatin on water, glucose, sodium, and urea transport by utilizing an in vivo perfusion technique in the rat jejunum. Somatostatin (2.5-37.5 µ/kg ∙ min) infused intravenously had no effect on basal absorption of wa

Electrical circuit analysis was used to study the structural development of occluding junctions (OJs) in cultured monolayers composed to T84 cells. The magnitude of the increments in transepithelial resistance predicted by such analysis was compared
