When computing flows inside geometrically complex turbine-blade coolant passages, the structure of the grid system used can significantly affect the overall time and cost required to obtain solutions. This article addresses this issue while evaluatin

The operating conditions and the propellant transport properties used in Earth-to-orbit (ETO) applications affect the aerothermodynamic design of ETO turbomachinery in a number of ways. This paper discusses some aerodynamic and heat-transfer implicat

Detailed heat transfer measurementa and predictions are given for a turbine rotor with 136° of turning and an axial chord of 12.7 cm. Data were obtained for inlet Reynolds numbers of 0.5 and 1.0 × 106, for isentropic exit Mach numbers of 1.0 and 1.

Computations were performed to study the three-dimensional flow and heat transfer in a ribbed U-shaped duct of square cross section under operating conditions that are typical of industrial gas turbines. Basically, all walls were maintained at a temp

Time-averaged Stanton number and surface-pressure distributions are reported for the first-stage vane row and the first-stage blade row of the Rocketdyne Space Shuttle Main Engine two-stage fuel-side turbine. These measurements were made at 10, 50, a

Comparisons are made between calculated and measured heat-transfer distributions on the midspan locations of the stators and rotors of two turbine stages. The agreement is generally good, except in regions near the leading edge, and is better for bla
