Methods to compute the minimum and maximum eigenvalues of an infinite-dimensional matrix using extrapolation techniques are presented. These methods are suited for, though not limited to, matrices used in nonorthogonal function fitting.

A model for partial series is given in terms of difference equations. This model allows the techniques of digital signal processing to be applied to series for the purpose of series evaluation, filtering, and extrapolation.

A compact algorithm that uses cubic splines to converge to a function minimum is given. It is as simple to implement as a currently popular algorithm, yet it provides a higher order function approximation.

Shanks has developed a powerful nonlinear extrapolation method by assuming a partial series can be decomposed into a finite sum of exponential transients. The use of this extrapolation method is rarely justified, however. This paper presents a means

The resonances of cylindrical-like cavities are calculated using the boundary residual method and compared to experimental values. The results show good agreement with experiments, although some spurious resonances are created.

A generalized approach to the effects of symmetry and periodicity on boundary-value problems is presented, especially as it pertains to the guiding structures encountered in electromagnetics. Several examples of structures and their dispersion behavi

The potential for the use of biological agents by terrorists is a real threat. Two approaches for antibody-based detection of biological species are described in this paper: 1) The use of microbead arrays for multiplexed flow cytometry detection of c

Wilms tumour is an embryonal malignant tumour that accounts for 90% of childhood kidney cancers. Parental occupational exposure has been hypothesised to be a cause of childhood Wilms tumour, in particular exposure to pesticides. However, the findings

The equilibrium behavior of diatomic hydrogen in a potential well is explored. The amount of squeezing experienced by hydrogen in the well is compared to that expected for hydrogen within palladium. Results show insufficient squeezing to account for

A method is shown to accelerate the convergence of a partial series. It is based on a generalized form of Kummer's comparison method in which a set of functions with unique properties are fitted to the summand values. This process subtracts off the t
