The US Air Force has implemented the widespread use of JP-8 jet fuel in its operations, although a thorough understanding of its potential effects upon exposed personnel is unclear. Previous work has reported that JP-8 exposure is immunosuppressive.

Many military personnel are at risk of lung damage or systemic toxicity as a result of exposure to the jet fuel JP-8. We have now used microarray analysis to characterize changes in the gene expression profile of lung tissue induced by exposure of ra

In an established rat model of smoke inhalation injury, we conducted a dose-response study to examine the protective effects of Xigris [drotrecogin alfa (activated) (DrotAA)], a recombinant form of human activated protein C (APC). DrotAA is a serine

To examine the hypothesis that Jet Propulsion Fuel (JP-8) inhalation potentiates influenza virus-induced inflammatory responses, we randomly divided female C57BL/6 mice (4-weeks old, weighing approximately 24.6 g) into the following groups: air contr

The purpose of this study was to investigate the proteomic mechanisms of Jet Propulsion-8 (JP-8) toxicity in the lung, specifically relating to lung epithelial cell apoptosis and edema. Male Swiss-Webster mice were exposed to 1 h/day aerosolized JP-8
