The reaction of biphenylene with manganese (III) acetate gave 2-acetoxybiphenylene, 2-formylbiphenylene, 2-(acetoxymethyl)biphenylene, and 7-oxa-10,11-benzotricyclo[4.3.2.0]undeca-2,4,10-trien-8-one. The reaction pathways are discussed.
