We present a visible VCSEL with integrated beam splitter. By focusing one beam onto a moving target and monitoring the power variation in the second beam, these devices can be used as Doppler-based velocity sensors.

There are many potential applications of visible, red (650nm - 690nm) vertical cavity surface emitting lasers (VCSELs) including high speed (Gb) communications using plastic optical fiber (POF), laser mouse sensors, metrology, position sensing. Uncer

This project has developed a low cost in-home network compatible with network standard IEEE1394b. We have developed all components of the network, from the red resonant cavity LEDs and VCSELs as light sources, the driver circuitry, plastic optical fi

We report on the development of resonant cavity LEDs (RCLEDs) for use in short distance datacommunication applications using the IEEE 1394 standard where plastic optical fibre (POF) is the physical medium. The devices are designed for 650nm and 500nm

Singlemode operation of an oxide confined vertical cavity surface emitting laser operating continuous wave around 670 nm up to a heatsink temperature of 80/spl deg/C is presented. Heatsinking of this device was improved by thinning the GaAs substrate

A parallel array of oxide-confined 676 nm vertical cavity surface emitting lasers (VCSELs) is demonstrated. 12 mW is emitted at 20/spl deg/C from a six-element array covering a 90 /spl mu/m diameter area. The individual apertures are thermally isolat

The photoluminescence spectrum of a GaAs/GaAlAs multiple quantum well p-i-n diode has been measured as a function of pressure. Room temperature measurements were carried out in a diamond anvil cell to about 4 GPa (40 kbars), and at 77 K to about 0.8
