Microhemorrhages are common in the aging brain, and their incidence is correlated with increased risk of neurodegenerative disease. Past work has shown that occlusion of individual cortical microvessels as well as large-scale hemorrhages can lead to

The amyloid-β (Aβ) peptide, a key pathogenic factor in Alzheimer's disease, attenuates the increase in cerebral blood flow (CBF) evoked by neural activity (functional hyperemia), a vital homeostatic response in which NMDA receptors (NMDARs) play a

The existence of cerebral blood flow (CBF) reductions in Alzheimer’s disease (AD) patients and related mouse models has been known for decades, but the underlying mechanisms and the resulting impacts on cognitive function and AD pathogenesis remain

Using in vivo nonlinear microscopy, we found 2% of brain capillaries were occluded by an adhered leukocyte in Alzheimer’s disease mice. Blocking this adhesion eliminated these stalls, improved brain blood flow by 30%, and restored spatial memory.

Deposition of amyloid-β (Aβ) in cerebral arteries, known as cerebral amyloid angiopathy (CAA), occurs both in the setting of Alzheimer’s disease and independent of it, and can cause cerebrovascular insufficiency and cognitive deficits. The mechan
