International audience; We measured the relationship between selfing rates and flower number in an experimental population of bumblebee pollinated Cynoglossum officinale, with plants differing in flower number. Results were compared with the predicti

Historical demographic processes and mating systems are believed to be major factors in the shaping of the intraspecies genetic diversity of plants. Among Caryophyllales, the Beta section of the genus Beta, within the Amaranthaceae/Chenopodiaceae all

Reproductive traits are key parameters for the evolution of invasiveness in weedy crop–wild hybrids. In Beta vulgaris, cultivated beets hybridize with their wild relatives in the seed production areas, giving rise to crop–wild hybrid weed beets.

Gynodioecious species are defined by the co-occurrence of two clearly separated categories of plants: females and hermaphrodites. The hermaphroditic category may, however, not be homogeneous, as male fitness may vary among hermaphrodites as a result

International audience; Gene flow is a crucial parameter that can affect the organization of genetic diversity in plant species. It has important implications in terms of conservation of genetic resources and of gene exchanges between crop to wild re

Gene flow and introgression from cultivated to wild plant populations have important evolutionary and ecological consequences and require detailed investigations for risk assessments of transgene escape into natural ecosystems. Sugar beets (Beta vulg

Gene flow via seed or pollen is a basic biological process in plant evolution. The ecological and genetic consequences of gene flow depend on the amount and direction of gene flow as well as on the fitness of hybrids. The assessment of potential risk

Often used as a proxy for the transition to reproduction, flowering time (FT) is an integrative trait of two successive biological processes, i.e. bolting time (BT) and the interval between bolting and flowering time (INT). In this study, we aimed to

International audience; In sugar beet, cytoplasmic male sterility (CMS) is conferred by the Owen mitochondrion (Svulg). In order to find polypeptides specific to this cytoplasm and putatively involved in CMS, we assessed the protein expressions of Sv

The present study shows that the recently described mitochondrial H haplotype is associated with cytoplasmic male-sterility (CMS). This new source of CMS appears to be di⁄erent from the mitotype E-associated CMS most frequently found in natural pop
