It is generally accepted that pegmatites are derived from large masses of granite but, even in areas where complete mineralogical, chemical and isotopic datasets are available, the relation between pegmatites and host granitic rocks or nearby plutons

In the Segura area, Variscan S-type granites, aplite veins and lepidolite-subtype granitic aplite-pegmatite veins intruded the Cambrian schist-metagraywacke complex. The granites are syn D3. Aplite veins also intruded the granites. Two-mica granite a

The main purpose of this work was to increase the knowledge about the geological resources of Trás-os-Montes and Alto Douro region (TMAD), particularly about their “schists” (slate, phyllite and schist), due to the economic and social effects th

Metaquartzite from Serra da Garraia and Zebras were studied. These rocks belong to the "Upper Quartzite Formation" of the “Parautochthonous Complex”. They are light grey and present, sometimes, a brownish patina. The quarries range from 2 to 10m

The build-up of large magmatic complexes can proceed piecemeal over periods of several million years through sequences of complex processes of magma production, differentiation, assimilation, final crystallization and subsequent metasomatic modificat

Garnet has long been recognized as an important mineral in metamorphic petrology thanks to its widespread distribution and successful use in the reconstruction of P-T-t paths. However, the potential of garnet to solve geological problems may have bee

Seven distinct phases of Variscan two-mica granite are recognized in the Guarda-Sabugal area. They intruded the Cambrian schist-metagraywacke complex, crystallized in the middle crust, and are syn- to late-D3 (309.2 ± 1.8 Ma), late-D3 (304–300 Ma)

The Carrazeda de Ansiaes and Sabugal areas in the Central Iberian Zone of the Iberian Variscan Belt contain abundant S-type granites formed during the post-thickening stage of the Variscan orogeny (syn- to post-D3, i.e. the last ductile deformation p

A biotite granodiorite and seven Sn-bearing two-mica granites crop out in the Gouveia area, central Portugal. A SHRIMP U–Th–Pb zircon age from the granodiorite, and monazite ages from four of the two-mica granites, show that they are of Early Ord
