Theoretical influences of reducing the cladding diameter for silica highly nonlinear fiber (HNLF) have been investigated by the finite-element method. Downsized HNLF with 56-mum cladding was fabricated, and certain reliability was confirmed through m

In recent technologies, various optical signal processing systems have been reported. In many of these applications, highly nonlinear fibers (HNLFs) are used as key parts. Especially, low loss and low dispersion slope are critical features of the HNL

We show that an optical beat signal is almost exactly converted to a soliton train through the propagation along a fiber with a polynomial dispersion decreasing profile, which is numerically optimized through iterative calculation. In the experiment,

We demonstrated FWM wavelength conversion with maximum conversion efficiecy of 1.5dB using a single CW pump with no phase modulation by SBS-suppressed HNLF. Over 60nm of conversion bandwidth with over-0dB conversion efficiency was obtained.

We developed polarization-maintaining comb-like profiled fiber (CPF) for the first time. Extinction ratio of 20 dB was achieved in a whole length of fabricated 4-step CPF. 10 GHz repeating, 2.4 ps pulse train was successfully compressed to 0.9 ps.

We demonstrated 8 dB SBS-suppression and a uniform dispersion simultaneously by down-sized dispersion-decreasing HNLF applying distributed strain. FWM wavelength conversion efficiency of -2 dB was achieved with single CW pumping.

We propose and demonstrate generation of an in-phase optical pulse train from an optical beat signal. The proposed method is based on four-wave mixing occurring between the two continuous waves of the beat signal and on spectral filtering to shape th

We review pulse compression technique based on "comb-like profiled fiber (CPF)", comprised of alternate concatenations of highly nonlinear fiber and anomalous-dispersion fiber. We show CPF has truly practical and flexible features for optical pulse c
