We demonstrate a prototype mid-wave to long-wave infrared supercontinuum, Fourier transform sensor capable of chemical detection and identification at 3.6 m. The system utilizes a 150 mW supercontinuum source with a continuous spectrum from 1.6–11

Using a two-layer metal nanoparticle dimer array, we numerically show that the array can act as an efficient circular polarizer. Linearly polarized incident light can be completely split into right and left circularly polarized light. The simulation

A tunable, 2 μm, narrow linewidth vertical-external-cavity surface-emitting laser (VECSEL) is demonstrated. Single-longitudinal mode operation with sub-MHz linewidth is achieved over a tuning range of 80 nm.

A laser is conventionally generated by pumping molecules to a population inversion condition followed by stimulated emission to produce coherent, monochromatic, high intensity beams of light. Herein, we numerically show an alternative way to achieve

We examine the microwave radiation emitted from inductively charged centimeter-scale YBCO (YBa2Cu3O7-δ) annular rings illuminated with a 45 fs, 790 nm laser pulse. The electromagnetic radiation from the rings shows the following behavior. (1) Radiat

Titanium nitride is widely used in plasmonic applications, due to its robustness and optical properties which resemble those of gold. Despite this interest, the nonlinear properties have only recently begun to be investigated. In this work, beam defl

Using the discrete dipole approximation (DDA) method, we investigated the propagation of light within the visible wavelength region for a two-layer silver film with periodic angled holes. The perforation of the holes at an angle of 45° allows light

Invasive zygomycosis is the second most common oppor- tunistic mold infection after invasive aspergillosis among patients with hematological malignancies and transplant recipients, and cure typically requires extensive debridement. Gastric zygomycosi

We measure the ultrafast nonlinear dynamics of two-layer graphene. One instantaneous electronic and three non-instantaneous free carrier responses are observed. Measurements indicate a large saturable absorption effect due to Pauli blocking.
