Morphological characterization of porous media is of paramount interest, mainly due to the connections between their physicochemical properties and their porous microstructure geometry. Heterogeneity can be seen as a geometric characteristic of porou

Geometric tortuosity is one of the foremost topological characteristics of porous media. Despite the various definitions in the literature, to our knowledge, they are all linked to an arbitrary propagation direction. This article proposes a novel top

In Diesel engines, a key element in achieving a clean and efficient combustion process is a proper fuel-air mixing, which is a consequence of the fuel spray development and fuel-air interaction inside the engine combustion chamber. The spray structur

The method proposed in this paper uses the Independent Component Analysis (ICA) for an application of unsupervised recognition of textures. The analysed texture is modelled by a weighted sum of almost statistically independent random signals that are

This paper addresses the descriptors-based characterization of dense 3D microstructures using the unifying concept of accessibility, mixing local shape features with global topology. Underlying percolation and constrictivity features are jointly cons

International audience; The analysis of 3D images of complex materials, once imaging and reconstruction steps have been thoroughly done, can provide essential information. This analysis can be largely enhanced by using a modeling of the observed medi

To investigate if the characteristics of human intestinal Escherichia coli are changing with the environment of the host, we studied intestinal E. coli from subjects having recently migrated from a temperate to a tropical area. We determined the phyl
