In this work the authors perform a combined numerical and experimental study of noise-like pulse multiscale instabilities in dissipative laser systems. They reveal an underlying multiscale dynamics and report the observation of rogue wave events.

Low amplitude noise on an otherwise constant-intensity wave can grow exponentially and induce nonlinear dynamical behaviour. Here, the authors present time-domain measurements of a phenomenon arising from such modulation instability: the emergence of

The Eckhaus instability is a secondary instability of nonlinear spatiotemporal patterns in which high-wave-number periodic solutions become unstable against small-wave-number perturbations. Here we show that this instability can take place in Kerr co

Dissipative soliton lasers are widely used to generate stable ultrashort pulses, but they are also known to exhibit complex instabilities of great interest from a nonlinear dynamics perspective. A particular example is the "noise-like pulse" laser em

Millimeter-sized whispering gallery mode resonators produced from bulk crystalline substrates show great potential as optoelectronics components but are still delicate to produce. We report here on an improved manufacturing technique based on femtose

Understanding dynamical complexity is one of the most important challenges in science. Significant progress has recently been made in optics through the study of dissipative soliton laser systems, where dynamics are governed by a complex balance betw

International audience; Kerr comb generation is usually based on the nonlinear dynamics of the intracavity field in a whispering-gallery-mode resonator pumped by a continuous-wave laser. However, using a pulsed instead of a continuous-wave pump opens

We introduce a high-brightness and high-visibility source to generate and manipulate high-dimensional frequency-bin entangled photon pairs, using photonic circuit integrable components. We demonstrate, with this source, the antibunching effect in hig

International audience; We report on the real-time observation of highly-localized structures and rogue waves spontaneously emerging from noise during fiber propagation. Experimental results, obtained via a time-lens magnifier, are in good agreement
