Photonic Switching.
We describe an ATM switching matrix based on wavelength encoding of cells for space switching. Taking advantage of the encoding scheme, the cells are buffered in a reduced set of fiber delay lines for contention resolution.

The first four-channel 565 Mbit/s FSK transmission experiment at 1.53 mu m is reported based on tunable three-electrode DFB lasers. -44 dBm receiver sensitivity and 5.5 GHz minimum channel spacing have been measured for 10/sup -9/ bit error rate.
