Marsh terraces, constructed as a restoration and protection strategy, consist of a series of earthen berms in open water areas of the coastal wetland landscape and are being implemented across the Louisiana coast. To assess the efficacy of the marsh

Fires can have an anthropogenic or natural origin. The most frequent natural fire cause is lightning. Since anthropogenic and lightning fires have different climatic and socio-economic drivers, it is important to distinguish between these different f

The elevation and vegetation cover of salt marshes can contribute to wave attenuation in front of a levee, thus to coastal flood hazard reduction. The magnitude of such a contribution depends on the size, shape and cover of the marsh in relation to t

Coastal mangroves, thriving at the interface between land and sea, provide robust flood risk reduction. Projected increases in the frequency and magnitude of climate impact drivers such as sea level rise, wind and wave climatology reinforce the need

Determination of biophysical properties of mangroves, e.g. tree height and diameter at breast height, is necessary for assessing mangrove ecosystem dynamics and growth. However, traditional surveyi...

Multi-Time Scale Mangrove-Mudflat Modelling: Exploring Guyana’s Unique Dataset & Numerical Modelling
The uncertainty surrounding the impact of sea-level-rise (SLR) and storms, which threaten the coastal hinterland, heightens the need for design guidelines on mangroves adaptation and their use in coastal safety. Mangrove forests, well known as coasta

This paper aims to fundamentally assess the resilience of salt marsh-mudflat systems under sea level rise. We applied an open-source schematized 2D area model (Delft3D) that couples intertidal flow, wave-action, sediment transport, geomorphological d
