We report an all-normal dispersion femtosecond laser based on large-mode-area Yb-doped photonic crystal fiber. Self-starting mode-locked pulses are obtained with an average power of 12 W at 84 MHz repetition rate, corresponding to 140 nJ of chirped p

Dissipative solitons can be stable despite huge nonlinear phase shifts. We exploit this property and scaling at constant nonlinear phase to demonstrate a femtosecond fiber laser with peak power 4 times greater than prior lasers.

We report on photonic crystal fiber based scaling of the mode-area of a dissipative soliton laser. The laser delivers 142 nJ chirped pulses with 12 W average power, dechirping to 105 fs after extra-cavity compression.

We demonstrate the generation of 48 fs pulses with 18 W average power and 226 nJ of pulse energy from a Yb-doped fiber amplifier. The system uses a simple stretcher-free single-stage amplifier configuration operating in the parabolic pulse regime. Th

We have generated pulses as short as 4 psec at 1530 nm from a mode-locked erbium-doped fiber laser. The mode locker is a wide-bandwidth, lithium niobate guided-wave modulator, and the fiber laser is completely integrated. We present evidence that sol

We have compressed the output of a synchronously pumped cavity-dumped dye laser with a fiber-prism pulse compressor. The prism pair consisted of two dense flint glass prisms, which were used at a grazing exit angle to increase the dispersive power. W

We have compressed the 80-psec pulses from a cw mode-locked Nd:YAG laser by a factor of 45. The pulse compressor uses single-mode optical fiber and a compact grating-pair dispersive delay line.

In this talk we first review the historical development of commercial mode-locked lasers based on titanium doped sapphire, including experimental and theoretical data highlighting the limits of these lasers, especially average output power and tuning

We review the design of an LBO optical parametric oscillator (OPO) synchronously pumped by a cw mode-locked Ti:sapphire laser. The synchronously pumped OPO produces 100 fsec pulses at 1.3 and 1.5 micrometers as well as near 600 nm using frequency dou
