MARSIS attenuation and thermal data confirm that liquid brines are the most plausible source for the bright reflections at the base of the South Polar Layered Deposits. Such results also justify why SHARAD does not penetrate to the base of the ice.

Introduction The presence of liquid water at the base of the Southern polar cap of Mars has been inferred from exceptionally strong radar echoes detected by MARSIS aboard the MEX spacecraft [1]. The identification of water from strong radar reflectio

Both imaging and inversion of potential fields allow the estimation of the source-property distribution. Here, we compare these methods in order to assess their relative advantages and performances. Specifically, we use an iterative imaging algorithm

A novel method to estimate the loss tangent using ground-penetrating radar (GPR) data and assuming a Ricker wavelet as the transmitted radar signal is presented. This method proposes a new relation between centroid frequency and loss tangent, which a

We show that high-resolution aeromagnetic surveys, although rarely employed in the research of salt structures, may be an effective and low-cost tool for mapping diapirism. A multiscale analysis of a high-resolution magnetic data set at Nordkapp Basi

Inversion of magnetic data is complicated by the presence of remanent magnetization, and it provides limited information about the magnetic source because of the insufficiency of data and constraint information. We propose a Fourier domain transforma

To investigate the crustal magnetic structure, it is important to assess the susceptibility and remanence properties of rocks and ores. In this paper, we propose a method to extract the contributions of induced and remanent magnetization from modelin

The vertical gradient is an essential tool in interpretation algorithms. It is also the primary enhancement technique to improve the resolution of measured gravity and magnetic field data, since it has higher sensitivity to changes in physical proper

Imaging of potential fields yields a fast 3D representation of the source distribution of potential fields. Imaging methods are all based on multiscale methods allowing the source parameters of potential fields to be estimated from a simultaneous ana
