We demonstrate that elegant Laguerre-Gaussian beams belong to the families of structured wavefields. As such, they also have the self-healing property that is explained on physical grounds as traveling waves that superposed conform these beams.

We demonstrate that propagation of Laguerre-Gaussian beams has not been fully understood since some observed phenomena with them cannot be explained without the use of transverse traveling wave features similar to those of Bessel beams.
