Wet deposition and dry deposition of legacy per- and polyfluoroalkyl substances (PFAS) and perfluoroalkyl ether carboxylic acids (PFECAs) were assessed on the southeastern coast of the United States, specifically, in Wilmington, NC, which is located

Global atmospheric ethanol budget models include large uncertainties in the magnitude of ethanol emission sources and sinks. To apply stable isotope techniques to constrain ethanol emission sources, a headspace solid phase microextraction gas chromat

Diurnal variations in gas phase and surface water concentrations of ethanol and acetaldehyde were investigated at five locations in southeastern North Carolina, USA. There were distinct diurnal oscillations observed in gas phase concentrations with m

The increased use of small molecular weight alcohols such as ethanol and potentially butanol isomers as biofuels has raised questions about the fate of these compounds in the environment once emitted. In order to address these questions, a method for

The global wet deposition flux of ethanol is estimated to be 2.4 ± 1.6 Tg/yr with a conservative range of 0.2–4.6 Tg/yr based upon analyses of 219 wet deposition samples collected at 12 locations globally. This estimate calculated by using observe

Rainwater and gas phase ethanol concentrations increased approximately fourfold between 2010 and 2017 in Wilmington, NC, USA. This 8-year study demonstrates that the gas phase and rainwater concentrations of ethanol have risen due to increased produc

In order to assess the use of Spanish moss (Tillandsia usneoides L.) as a biomonitor for atmospheric reactive nitrogen (Nr), T. usneoides samples were collected in urban Wilmington, NC, USA and at a remote barrier island 30 km away (Bald Head Island,

This study reports the first ethanol concentrations in fresh and estuarine waters and greatly expands the current data set for coastal ocean waters. Concentrations for 153 individual measurements of 11 freshwater sites ranged from 5 to 598 nM. Concen

The recent rapid increase in ethanol use as a biofuel and emission to the atmosphere may impact air quality and oxidizing capacity in the atmosphere. However, the global models show large uncertainties on sources of atmospheric ethanol. Concentration
