For the first time, a photorefractive crystal, acting as a self-adapted spectral filter, has been inserted in laser resonators. A spectacular spectral narrowing has been observed in pulsed Ti:sapphire and CW diode pumped Nd:YVO/sub 4/ lasers.

Our spectroscopic studies have shown without ambiguity that the three charge states Rh3+, Rh4+, Rh5+ are responsible at 1.06 µm for the optical absorption and charge redistribution through hole photoconductivity in rhodium doped barium titanate [1].

Rhodium doped Barium Titanate (BaTiO3:Rh) is known for its significant response at 1.06µm: high two-wave mixing gain (23cm–1 in the cw regime and 16cm–1 in the nanosecond regime for a 45° cut sample) and low absorption (0.1cm–1). The characte

A constant intensity, rectilinear light vibration, with spatially varying orientation, is obtained from superposition of two orthogonal circularly polarized waves propagating, in slightly different directions. Such an exposure on a photoanisotropic m

The anisotropy induced in a silver-silver-chloride emulsion by two vibrations with circular polarizations of opposite sense, is described as a function of their phase difference ϕ. It consists in variations in the orientation of the induced optic ax

Bleached silver halide photographic plates show birefringence after strong illumination by linearly polarized light. The phenomenon is described and an application to the recording of two images on the same plate, and their separate restitution is pr

A setup in described that gives a very simple visual demonstration of phase grating non-uniformities, such as modulation variations. The principle of the method is that the amplitude transmittance of a phase grating is a chromatic function. We show h
