Experiments of x-ray emission from Ar, Kr, and Ar/Kr gas jet mixture were performed at the UNR Leopard Laser Facility operated with 350 fs pulses at laser intensity of 2 × 1019 W/cm2 and 0.8 ns pulses at an intensity of 1016 W/cm2. Debris free x-ray

A gas jet containing a mixture of monomers and clusters was characterized and studied as an x-ray radiation source produced by a TW-class laser pulse. Gas jet parameters such as average density and cluster size were measured at the UNR Radiation Phys

This paper presents a first demonstration of a radio-frequency (RF)-excited optical gas analyzer (RF-OGA) designed to quantitatively measure minority species inside the neutralization region of the ITER fusion experiment divertor. The sensor head, wh

Theoretical studies have predicted that the disruptive role of the Rayleigh-Taylor (R-T) instability on the current conduction and implosion characteristics of annular Z-pinch loads will be mitigated by mass accretion if uniform fill or multiple annu

We have spectroscopically observed, as suggested by Sanford et al. (1996), a transition from discrete wire implosions to the implosion of a more continuous plasma shell in aluminum-wire-array Z pinches driven by a 7-TW electrical generator. The time

The development of efficient x-ray probes with photon energies 1–20 keV became important for high-energy density physics (HEDP) research at larger scale facilities such as OMEGA and NIF. The goal of our studies is better understanding of the mechan

Results of Ar gas-puff experiments performed on the high power Leopard laser at UNR are presented. The Leopard laser operated in two regimes: 350 fs, 40 TW pulse, or 0.8 ns, 25 GW pulse (pulse contrast from 10−5 to 10−7). Laser wavelength was 1.0

A plasma source has been developed for use in cylindrical plasma opening switches (POS). The "inverse pinch" (IP) produces a radially expanding plasma ring formed from a gas puff and is designed to be mounted inside the center conductor of a POS. Int
