The main superconducting dipoles for the LHC are being stored outdoors for periods from a few weeks to several years after conditioning with dry nitrogen gas. Such a storage before installation in the 27 km circumference tunnel may affect not only th

Inclusive direct photon invariant cross sections have been measured in both p p and pp collisions at √ s = 24.3 GeV at the CERN SPS, permitting the first measurement of the difference of the p p and pp cross sections. The direct photon cross sectio

The inclusive cross section times branching ratio for J/ψ→e + e − has been measured in the forward region in the UA6 experiment for p p and pp collisions at √ s = 24.3 GeV. The ratio of the pp to p p cross sections is found to be 0.76 ± 0.14

The LHC will be equipped with 1232 horizontally curved 16 meter long super-conducting dipole magnets cooled at 1.9K, supported within their vacuum vessel by three Glass Fiber Resin Epoxy (GFRE) support posts. The two support posts at the dipole extre

The problem of collimation and beam cleaning is one of the most challenging aspects of the LHC project. A collimation system must be designed, built, installed and commissioned with parameters that extend the present state-of-the-art by 2-3 orders of
In order to provide the necessary mechanical aperture for the LHC beam, the main dipole cold masses have to match precisely the nominal circular trajectory of the particles beam. The requirements on the dipole cold mass geometry are dictated by the L

At the Large Hadron Collider (LHC) with nominal parameters at 7 TeV, each proton beam has an energy of more than 330 MJ threatening to damage accelerator equipment in case of uncontrolled beam loss. To prevent such damage, kickers are fired in case o
